Chromosome-level wild Hevea brasiliensis genome provides new tools for genomic-assisted breeding and valuable loci to elevate rubber yield

Han Cheng et al.

Summary: This article presents the genome sequence of the wild rubber tree, the first report on selection signatures and a genome-wide association study of its yield traits. The study found a moderate population divergence between rubber tree clones and wild accessions, and identified 245 genes associated with latex yield. Additionally, genes related to sugar transport and metabolism, as well as ethylene biosynthesis and signaling, were found to be associated with latex yield.

Genomic insight into domestication of rubber tree

Jinquan Chao et al.

Summary: Understanding the genetic basis of rubber tree domestication is crucial for improving natural rubber production. By assembling the genome and conducting population and genetic association analyses, the study reveals the function of phytosulfokine in regulating the number of laticifer rings, which is a major domestication trait. Heterologous overexpression of HbPSK5 in Russian dandelion can increase rubber content by promoting laticifer formation.

Centromeres: From chromosome biology to biotechnology applications and synthetic genomes in plants

Jingwei Zhou et al.

Summary: This article systematically summarizes the current knowledge of centromere biology, discussing the relationship between DNA compositions and the histone H3 variant in centromere establishment and identity. The roles of centromeres in cell division and three-dimensional genomic architecture are explored, along with potential applications in plant breeding and chromosome engineering. The challenges and strategies for de novo design and synthesis of centromeres are also assessed.
