Coupling Methanol Oxidation with Hydrogen Evolution on Bifunctional Co-Doped Rh Electrocatalyst for Efficient Hydrogen Generation

Yan Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, efficient hydrogen production from water splitting is achieved using Co-doped Rh nanoparticles as electrocatalysts. The results show that Co-doping reduces reaction barriers and enhances the adsorption capacity of reactants, resulting in excellent activity. In a two-electrode cell, the combination of fast oxidation reaction on the anode and efficient hydrogen evolution reaction on the cathode enables efficient water splitting for hydrogen production.

Glucose Oxidase-like Rhodium Single-Atom Nanozymes: A Mimic Platform for Biometabolism and Electrometabolism of Glucose Oxidation at Neutral pH

Panpan Zhao et al.

Summary: In this work, rhodium single-atom nanozymes (Rh SANs) were designed to mimic the function of natural glucose oxidase (GOD) for glucose oxidation. The Rh SANs demonstrated the same biocatalytic mechanism and electrocatalytic path as natural GOD. By coupling a bilirubin oxidase biocathode, a Rh SANs-based glucose/O2 enzymatic biofuel cell (EBFC) was developed with a significantly enhanced power density compared to a natural GOD-based EBFC. This device not only accelerates the development of nanozymes but also paves avenues for powering portable and wearable devices.

Efficient electrochemical ethanol-to-CO2 conversion at rhodium and bismuth hydroxide interfaces

Bing Lan et al.

Summary: The research team successfully improved the CO2 selectivity of ethanol oxidation reaction by fabricating highly-dispersive Bi(OH)(3) species on Rh interfaces, addressing the poisoning effect of C1 intermediates on the original Rh activity. The strong interaction between Rh and Bi(OH)(3) enhanced the catalyst's activity and stability.

Plasmon-Enhanced C-C Bond Cleavage toward Efficient Ethanol Electrooxidation

Yan Wei et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect to enhance the electrocatalytic ethanol oxidation reaction under visible light in alkaline media. The Au@Pt nanoparticles with plasmonic core and active shell exhibit higher activity and selectivity under illumination. In situ surface IR spectroscopy provides molecular level insights into the reaction mechanism. This research expands the application of plasmonic electrocatalysis and in situ surface IR spectroscopy, and offers a promising approach for tuning complex reaction pathways.

An Pei et al.

Summary: The rational design of multimetallic catalysts, such as Pd12Ru3/Ni(OH)2/C, can significantly enhance the hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) and ethanol oxidation reactions (EOR) in alkaline water electrolysis and fuel cells. These catalysts show lower HER overpotentials, improved stability, and higher activity for EOR compared to commercial Pt/C catalysts.

Pd Metallene Aerogels with Single-Atom W Doping for Selective Ethanol Oxidation

Hengjia Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a bubbling CO-induced gelation method was developed to construct single-atom W-doped Pd metallene aerogels. The resulting aerogels exhibited outstanding performance and high C1 pathway selectivity for the ethanol oxidation reaction. This research not only provides an effective method for fabricating noble metal aerogels but also offers guidance for the development of high-efficiency electrocatalysts for the ethanol oxidation reaction.

Metastability of palladium carbide nanoparticles during hydrogen release from liquid organic hydrogen carriers

Ralf Schuster et al.

Summary: The dynamic formation and decomposition of Pd6C and PdxC phases on Pd-based catalysts during LOHC dehydrogenation is influenced by particle size and reaction conditions. This demonstrates the metastability of palladium carbides in the process, with larger nanoparticles favoring the nucleation of graphene.
