Buckling analysis of embedded thermo-magneto-electro-elastic nano cylindrical shell subjected to axial load with nonlocal strain gradient theory

Yifei Gui et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the buckling problem of TMEE nano cylindrical shells surrounded by elastic medium. A novel size-dependent TMEE nano cylindrical shell model is developed based on Kirchhoff-Love theory and nonlocal strain gradient theory. The governing differential equations are derived and the bifurcation condition for buckling is obtained using Navier's method. The influence of scale effects, geometric dimensions, and load cases on buckling behavior is examined, providing theoretical support for the design and manufacture of TMEE nano structures.

Thermo-mechanical buckling analysis of non-uniformly heated rectangular plates with temperature-dependent material properties

Yongan Ren et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the thermo-mechanical buckling behavior of a rectangular plate with temperature-dependent material properties under non-uniform heating. The buckling analysis is performed using the differential quadrature method, including three steps: proposing a 2D non-linear heat transfer equation to obtain the temperature distribution, solving the thermoelastic equilibrium equation to obtain the in-plane stress distribution, and determining the critical load by solving the stability equation. The results are compared with finite element solutions and literature data, showing good agreement. The effects of surrounding temperature fields and in-plane load cases on the thermo-mechanical behavior of the plate are analyzed in detail.

Nonlocal Strain Gradient Model for the Nonlinear Static Analysis of a Circular/Annular Nanoplate

Mostafa Sadeghian et al.

Summary: This paper presents a nonlinear static analysis of a circular/annular nanoplate on the Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory. The governing equations of the graphene plate are derived using first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) with nonlinear von Karman strains. The differential quadratic method (DQM) is used to solve the governing equations, and the results are validated by comparing with other papers. The study investigates the effects of various parameters on the maximum non-dimensional deflection of the nanoplate.

Buckling and free vibrations behaviour through differential quadrature method for foamed composites

Dasari Duryodhana et al.

Summary: This study focuses on predicting the buckling and free vibration frequencies of cenosphere reinforced epoxy based syntactic foam beam under varying loads. The differential quadrature method is used to predict the critical buckling loads and frequencies. The effects of different boundary conditions, axial load types, and aspect ratios on the buckling behavior of the syntactic foam beams are investigated. The results show that increasing the cenosphere volume fraction leads to an increase in the buckling loads and frequencies of the syntactic foam composites.

Post-buckling behavior of functionally graded and carbon-nanotubes based structures with different mechanical loadings

Souhir Zghal et al.

Summary: This article investigates the post-buckling behavior of plates and cylindrical panels made of functionally graded materials and carbon-nanotubes reinforced composites under mechanical loads. It proposes a formulation within a double directors finite shell element that allows a parabolic distribution of the transverse shear strains and introduces large deformations and finite rotations through a non-linear framework. Newton-Raphson with arc length control solution strategy is used to resolve the equilibrium paths.

Buckling and postbuckling response of nonlocal strain gradient porous functionally graded micro/nano-plates via NURBS-based isogeometric analysis

Fan Fan et al.

Summary: The study shows that considering geometric nonlinearity and moving to deeper part of the postbuckling regime reduces the significance of both nonlocality and strain gradient size dependencies. Additionally, increasing the material property gradient index results in an enhancement of nonlocal and strain gradient size effects, especially in the deeper part of the postbuckling domain. Moreover, the study demonstrates that the porosity index has a negligible influence on the significance of size dependencies for a PFGM micro/nano-plate, regardless of the boundary conditions.

Elastic buckling and free vibration analysis of functionally graded Timoshenko beam with nonlocal strain gradient integral model

Yuan Tang et al.

Summary: This work investigates the elastic buckling and free vibration response of functionally graded Timoshenko beams using a nonlocal strain gradient integral model. By deriving governing equations and boundary conditions via Hamilton's principle and utilizing Laplace transform technique to solve integral-differential equations, explicit expressions for bending deflections, moments, cross-sectional rotation, and shear force are obtained with eight unknown constants. The nonlinear characteristic equations for determining buckling load and vibration frequency are explicitly derived, and the results are validated against existing literature.

Application of differential quadrature method to delaminated first-order shear deformable composite plates

Andras Szekrenyes

Summary: This work applied the differential quadrature method to composite plates with delamination, using two and four equivalent single layers to provide numerical results. The convergence of deflection was compared to analytical and finite element models, showing deviations between upper and lower bounds. It was found that the method of two equivalent single layers exhibits an oscillatory phenomenon in mode-II components. Additionally, the importance of proper grid structure to avoid waviness in mode-III energy release rate was highlighted when using four equivalent single layers.
