Application of Polymethylpentene, an Oxygen Permeable Thermoplastic, for Long-Term on-a-Chip Cell Culture and Organ-on-a-Chip Devices

Summary: The applicability of polymethylpentene (PMP) as a thermoplastic material for organ-on-a-chip and long-term cell cultivation applications was investigated. PMP was found to have comparable performance to commonly used glass and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) in terms of oxygen supply, optical properties, and compatibility with high-resolution confocal microscopy. This research demonstrates the potential of PMP to expand the range of microfluidic applications due to its beneficial physical properties and suitability for different methods of prototyping.
