Quantitative EEG-Based Seizure Estimation in Super-Refractory Status Epilepticus

Ayham Alkhachroum et al.

Summary: The study found that both qEEG experts and novices had high sensitivity but low specificity in identifying seizures in patients with SRSE. qEEG could be a useful tool for qEEG experts to estimate seizure burden in patients with SRSE.

Prediction of Long-term Survival After Status Epilepticus Using the ACD Score

Lars Egil Roberg et al.

Summary: The study aimed to improve the prediction of long-term mortality after status epilepticus diagnosis. The findings showed that age, long duration, and nonconvulsive type of status epilepticus in coma were associated with the development of new neurological deficits, which could predict long-term mortality. Accounting for risk factors for new neurological deficits using the ACD score is a reliable method of predicting long-term outcome in patients with status epilepticus causes that were not damaging or were less damaging to the brain.

A retrospective cohort study of super-refractory status epilepticus in a tertiary neuro-ICU setting

Bellami Kerin et al.

Summary: There have been significant reductions in the duration of super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE) and time spent in ICU over time, indicating an improvement in treatment quality. Despite a low mortality rate, all surviving patients still had moderate-to-severe disability at discharge from ICU.

Predictors of outcome in super refractory status epilepticus

Jithu Jose et al.

Summary: The study identified independent therapeutic and electrophysiological prognostic factors for Super Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE). Factors such as ICU stay duration, EEG findings, treatment delays were found to be predictors of poor outcome. Early initiation of treatment and stringent management of these factors, especially in a younger age group, can result in good outcomes in more than one-third of cases.
