Doxorubicin Detoxification in Healthy Organs Improves Tolerability to High Drug Doses for Enhanced Antitumor Therapy

Qi Jiang et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a biomimetic nanoparticle that can enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs for cancer treatment while reducing their toxicity. This nanoparticle can selectively target healthy tissue and prevent the drug from damaging healthy cells, enabling higher drug doses to be delivered to tumor tissue without toxicity. The nanoparticle also activates the immune system to attack tumors. In mouse tumor models, pretreatment with this nanoparticle followed by high-dose chemotherapy significantly prolonged survival.

Ferroptotic stress promotes macrophages against intracellular bacteria

Ruonan Ma et al.

Summary: This study explores the role of iron in macrophages in suppressing intracellular bacteria. It reveals that the induction of ferroptotic stress and the inhibition of iron transport can lead to the death of intracellular bacteria. The findings suggest that targeting ferroptosis may provide a therapeutic approach for infectious diseases caused by intracellular pathogens.

Magnesium hexacyanoferrate nanocatalysts attenuate chemodrug-induced cardiotoxicity through an anti-apoptosis mechanism driven by modulation of ferrous iron

Minfeng Huo et al.

Summary: Distressing and lethal cardiotoxicity is a severe side effect of using anthracycline drugs for cancer chemotherapy. In this study, a biocompatible nanomedicine is designed and constructed to target ferrous iron overload in the contaminated cardiac microenvironment, providing efficient intracellular ferrous ion capture and antioxidation. The nanomedicine demonstrates excellent cardioprotection both in vitro and in vivo.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Recent advances in selective photothermal therapy of tumor

Liping Zhao et al.

Summary: Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising approach in cancer treatment, but challenges such as accurate laser exposure and potential side effects need to be addressed. Enhancing the selectivity of PTT involves increasing the accumulation of photothermal agents at tumor sites and giving them self-regulating photothermal conversion functions.
