S-Dual of Maxwell-Chern-Simons Theory

Summary: We discuss the dynamics of 3-dimensional Maxwell theory coupled to a level -k Chern-Simons term and propose an S-dual description motivated by string theory. The S-dual theory includes a nongauge one-form field, previously proposed by Deser and Jackiw, and a level -k U(1) Chern-Simons term. We also discuss the couplings to external electric and magnetic currents and their string theory realizations.

Dualties of adjoint QCD3 from branes

Summary: This article considers an 'electric' U(N) level k QCD(3) theory with one adjoint Majorana fermion and explores its dual theories near the supersymmetric point. Two magnetic dual theories are obtained based on different parameter ranges, and duality for SO and USp theories is also discussed.

Summary: 't Hooft anomaly matching is a powerful tool for constraining the low energy phases of gauge theories. In this study, we focus on the parity anomaly in T-symmetric SU(N) gauge theory and find that there is always a parity anomaly between the flavor group and T-symmetry when there is a massless Majorana fermion in the adjoint representation. We analyze this anomaly along with the mod 16 time-reversal anomaly and propose some free fermion candidates as low energy phases consistent with the anomalies. We also discuss the implications of the large N limit and T-broken regimes, as well as related anomalies in 4d.
