Translational studies of adrenomedullin and related peptides regarding cardiovascular diseases

Toshihiro Kita et al.

Summary: Adrenomedullin (AM) is a peptide that dilates blood vessels and has various physiological functions. Although AM levels are increased during severe inflammation, its value as a marker of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) seems to be less important due to the relatively low increase compared to infectious diseases. The limitations of AM's administration route and short half-life in the bloodstream restrict its therapeutic applications for CVDs. Researchers have developed AM derivatives with a longer half-life and less vasodilative activity, which can be administered at longer intervals to reduce inconvenience and expand the possible applications of AM for treating CVDs.

Therapeutic Targets for Heart Failure Identified Using Proteomics and Mendelian Randomization

Albert Henry et al.

Summary: This study investigated the associations and causal relationships of 90 cardiovascular proteins with heart failure (HF). It identified 44 proteins that were associated with incident HF, of which 8 showed evidence of a causal relationship and 7 were druggable. Adrenomedullin (ADM) was highlighted as a particularly promising drug target.

Summary: This study found that premature menopause, especially natural premature menopause, is independently associated with CHIP in postmenopausal women, serving as a risk signal for the development of CHIP and CHIP-related cardiovascular disease.
