Evolving multi-user fuzzy classifier system with advanced explainability and interpretability aspects

Edwin Lughofer et al.

Summary: This study proposes an interactive evolving multi-user fuzzy classifier system with advanced explainability and interpretability. It incrementally trains classifiers based on label feedback from multiple users, amalgamating the outputs while considering uncertainties and experience levels. The focus is on improving the quality of user feedbacks and explaining the classification outputs.

A quantitative approach for the comparison of additive local explanation methods

Emmanuel Doumard et al.

Summary: This paper aims to evaluate the limitations of the widely used additive explanation methods, SHAP and LIME, on a wide range of datasets and propose coalitional-based methods to overcome their weaknesses. The results show that SHAP and LIME are efficient in generating intelligible global explanations in high dimension, but they lack precision in local explanations and may exhibit unwanted behavior when changing parameters. Coalitional-based methods are computationally expensive but offer higher quality local explanations. A roadmap is provided to guide the selection of the most appropriate method based on dataset dimensionality and user's objectives.

Gender recognition using optimal gait feature based on recursive feature elimination in normal walking

Miran Lee et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel approach for gender recognition using RFE algorithm and SVM and RF classifiers, with significant effects of gender on gait characteristics such as temporal parameters, joint angles, and muscle activity. Female participants showed distinct differences in stride time, knee joint angles, and muscle activation compared to males during gait phases. SVM-RFE achieved a gender classification accuracy of 99.11% and RF-RFE achieved 98.89%, both demonstrating powerful performance.

Summary: This study proposes a novel method to discriminate adaptor complexes in the adaptor protein family using an interpretable deep neural network architecture. The research introduces a benchmark dataset of adaptor complexes from the UniProt and GeneOntology databases and assesses the robustness of the proposed method by comparing its performance to various machine learning algorithms and feature extraction strategies. The results demonstrate the promising performance of the architecture in assisting scientists in distinguishing adaptor complexes and general protein sequences.
