The Microsoft Research Aurora Project: Important Findings on Cuffless Blood Pressure Measurement

Ramakrishna Mukkamala et al.

Summary: Conventional blood pressure measurement devices only provide a limited view of continuous blood pressure profile. Wearable cuffless blood pressure devices utilizing pulse wave analysis and pulse arrival time have the potential to significantly improve the assessment and management of hypertension. The Aurora Project, conducted by Microsoft Research, evaluated the accuracy of various cuffless blood pressure devices and found negative results. This article discusses the emerging technologies, summarizes the Aurora Project, and highlights its implications, study methodology, and limitations.
