RasI/R Quorum Sensing System Controls the Virulence of Ralstonia solanacearum Strain EP1

Jinli Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, a new functional QS system (RasI/R) was identified and characterized in R. solanacearum strain EP1, which plays an important role in regulating bacterial virulence. This QS system produces and responds to the QS signal 3-OH-C12-HSL and regulates critical bacterial abilities in survival and infection. These findings provide new insight into the complicated QS regulatory networks of R. solanacearum, and offer potential targets for controlling and preventing bacterial wilt diseases.

A Bacterial Isolate Capable of Quenching Both Diffusible Signal Factor- and N-Acylhomoserine Lactone-Family Quorum Sensing Signals Shows Much Enhanced Biocontrol Potencies

Huishan Wang et al.

Summary: N-Acylhomoserine lactone (AHL) and diffusible signal factor (DSF) are widely conserved quorum sensing signals, and enzymatic inactivation of QS signals is a promising biocontrol strategy. DSF-quenching biocontrol agent Pseudomonas sp. HS-18 exhibits strong enzyme activity against both AHL and DSF signals, showing synergistic effects in reducing AHL accumulation and pathogen virulence.

Isolation, Characterization, and Genomic Investigation of a Phytopathogenic Strain of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia

Ming Hu et al.

Summary: S. maltophilia, previously understudied as a plant pathogen, was found to exhibit pathogenicity in plants with the JZL8 strain. Compared to other strains, JZL8 showed faster growth and different enzyme production patterns. Additionally, JZL8 demonstrated high survival rates under antibiotic stresses and unique genomic characteristics that may contribute to its pathogenicity in plants.

Exploration of the Quorum-Quenching Mechanism in Pseudomonas nitroreducens W-7 and Its Potential to Attenuate the Virulence of Dickeya zeae EC1

Wenping Zhang et al.

Summary: Quorum quenching (QQ) is a novel strategy for controlling quorum-sensing mediated bacterial pathogens by interfering with population-sensing systems. A highly efficient AHL-degrading bacterial strain W-7, identified as Pseudomonas nitroreducens, showed superior ability in degrading OdDHL within 48 hours. The findings unveil the biochemical aspects of this bacterial isolate and suggest potential for controlling infectious diseases caused by AHL-dependent bacterial pathogens.
