Development and validation of a duplex real-time PCR for the rapid detection and quantitation of HTLV-1

Huimin Ji et al.

Summary: This study developed and validated a TaqMan qPCR assay for accurate quantification of HTLV-1 proviral load, which has high sensitivity, good specificity, and reproducibility. This method can be used to confirm initial positive samples and monitor the clinical progression and efficacy of therapy in patients with HTLV-1 related diseases.

Seroprevalence of human T-lymphotropic virus infection among blood donors in China: a first nationwide survey

Le Chang et al.

Summary: This nationwide serological survey among Chinese blood donors revealed that the overall prevalence of HTLV infection is low in most areas of China, but varies significantly in different geographic regions. Female gender was identified as an independent risk factor for HTLV infection in China, and monitoring seroindeterminate donors for seroconversion is crucial for blood safety.

Prevalence and evolutionary analyses of human T-cell lymphotropic virus in Guangdong province, China: Transcontinental and Japanese subtype lineages dominate the prevalence

Qiao Liao et al.

Summary: Guangdong province is considered to have a low prevalence of HTLV-1 infection overall, but Shanwei city has a significantly higher prevalence. Transcontinental and Japanese subtype lineages dominate the prevalence of HTLV in Guangdong. Molecular characteristics suggest a common origin of prevalent HTLV-1 sequences in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Japan.
