Pseudomonas aeruginosa: A typical biofilm forming pathogen and an emerging but underestimated pathogen in food processing

Xuejie Li et al.

Summary: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is a gram-negative pathogenic microorganism known for its virulence factors, biofilm forming capability, and antimicrobial resistance. Despite being underestimated, it is a foodborne pathogen that can be found in various food groups. Chemical preservatives used to suppress microbial growth in food can pose food safety concerns. Therefore, finding effective and natural alternative antimicrobial agents for food processing is crucial. This review focuses on recent advances in food safety related to P. aeruginosa, including antimicrobial resistance, virulence factors, and prevention measures.

Treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infectious biofilms: Challenges and strategies

Rui Yin et al.

Summary: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a major pathogen in human infections, forms biofilms due to the secretion of extracellular polymeric substances, leading to antibiotic resistance. New treatment technologies, such as antimicrobial peptides and bacteriophage therapy, have been developed to target P. aeruginosa biofilms.

Roles of Two-Component Systems in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Virulence

Maria Sultan et al.

Summary: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen with potential threat to human health worldwide due to its high virulence and significant resistance to multiple antibiotics. Understanding the mechanism of two-component systems in controlling virulence factors during infection is crucial for developing new antibiotics to treat diseases caused by P. aeruginosa.

Galleria mellonella as a Suitable Model of Bacterial Infection: Past, Present and Future

Guillaume Menard et al.

Summary: The interest in using Galleria mellonella larvae as an infection model has been increasing rapidly since the early 2010s. This model is now being seen as a robust alternative to conventional animal models, particularly for studying immunological and microbiological aspects related to pathogenic bacteria. Researchers are focusing on virulence of pathogens and development of new therapies, with an emphasis on standardization and monitoring host-pathogen interactions.

PqsR-independent quorum-sensing response of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027 outlier-strain reveals new insights on the PqsE effect on RhlR activity

Selene Garcia-Reyes et al.

Summary: This study characterized the PqsE-dependent production of PYO in Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027 and found that PqsE promotes the RhlR-dependent production of PYO, although this production is not strictly dependent on PqsE. The interaction between PqsE and RhlR modifies the transcription of genes involved in PYO production, highlighting the variability of the quorum-sensing response among different P. aeruginosa clades and strains.
