Hospitalization costs of COPD cases and its associated factors: an observational study at two large public tertiary hospitals in Henan Province, China

Hospitalization costs for children with pneumonia in Shanghai, China from 2019 to 2020

Summary: This study analyzed hospitalization costs for children with pneumonia in a public hospital in Shanghai, China and evaluated factors that affect these costs. The results showed that pneumonia is the leading cause of death in children under 5 years old. The highest expenses were for laboratory diagnosis, general medical service, western medicine, and antibacterial drugs. To reduce the burden of pneumonia in children, it is important to optimize the use of medical resources and include various types of medical insurance in the children's medical security system, as well as promote the vaccination of pneumonia vaccines.

The Burden of COPD in China and Its Provinces: Findings From the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Summary: This study aimed to describe the burden of COPD in China and analyze the trends from 1990 to 2019. It found that while the incidence and prevalence of COPD increased over time, the number of deaths and DALYs decreased. The burden of COPD was higher in older age groups, and tobacco use was identified as the leading risk factor for COPD mortality and DALYs. Western provinces had higher COPD burden.

Summary: The study found that households enrolled in the New Rural Cooperative Medical Insurance Scheme were associated with a lower incidence of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) compared to those without insurance. Factors such as members over 65 years old, chronic diseases, poor self-reported health conditions, and receiving healthcare were associated with a higher risk of CHE. Large household size and high household income per capita were major protective factors against CHE incidence.
