Analysis of atomic magnetometry using metasurface optics for balanced polarimetry

Xuting Yang et al.

Summary: Atomic magnetometry is a highly sensitive field-measurement technique with diverse applications. This work focuses on the design and analysis of a silicon-metasurface-based polarization beam splitter for a rubidium magnetometer. The polarization beam splitter operates at a wavelength of 795 nm with high transmission efficiency and polarization extinction ratio. This study discusses the potential of realizing compact, high-sensitivity atomic magnetometers with nanophotonic component integration.

Metasurface-Based Solid Poincare? Sphere Polarizer

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes metasurface-based polarizers that can filter unpolarized light into light with any prescribed state of polarization (SOP) and degree of polarization (DOP). The metasurface's Jones matrix elements are designed using the adjoint method. Experimental demonstrations of the metasurface-based polarizers in the near-infrared frequencies show the conversion of unpolarized light into linear, elliptical, or circular polarizations with varying DOPs. This research introduces a new degree of freedom for metasurface polarization optics and has potential applications in polarization calibration and quantum state tomography.

Partial measurements of the total field gradient and the field-gradient tensor using an atomic magnetic gradiometer

Q. -Q Yu et al.

Summary: Magnetic gradiometers are widely used in practical and academic applications, with total field gradient and field gradient tensor being important observables. However, previous research on atomic magnetic gradiometers has not focused on measuring the field gradient tensor. In this study, we develop an atomic magnetic gradiometer based on two separately optically pumped atomic ensembles in a Herriott-cavity-assisted atomic cell. This gradiometer exhibits versatile operation modes and functions, and we demonstrate its ability to measure both types of field gradient observables.

Ultra-compact, efficient and high-polarization-extinction-ratio polarization beam splitters based on photonic anisotropic metamaterials

Jingjing Zhang et al.

Summary: Anisotropic metamaterials offer a new approach to designing ultra-compact, highly integrated optical components, and this paper presents a novel efficient polarization beam splitter based on such materials. By tailoring the metamaterial structures, a compact coupling region is achieved, efficiently suppressing TE mode coupling and enhancing TM mode coupling. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate low insertion loss, high extinction ratio, and wide operational bandwidth for the proposed beam splitter.

Novel Spin-Decoupling Strategy in Liquid Crystal-Integrated Metasurfaces for Interactive Metadisplays

Muhammad Ashar Naveed et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple asymmetric spin-orbit interaction (SOI)-based technique for multifunctional metaoptics. It uses a single unit cell and relies on geometric phase, reducing fabrication challenges and computational costs. A new low-cost material is used to optimize the transmission efficiency. The integrated system, which includes off-axis holographic metasurfaces and pressure-sensitive liquid crystal cells, allows for actively tunable metaholography without limitations on center symmetric information encoding. The design, fabrication, and interactive capabilities make this setup a potential candidate for various applications.
