Imidazolium-based protic ionic liquids with perfluorinated anions: Influence of chemical structure on thermal properties

Y. Prykhodko et al.

Summary: The thermal properties of imidazolium-based protic ionic liquids (PILs) with different perfluorinated anions were studied by synthesizing 21 PILs with various alkyl and fluorinated side chains. The results showed that an increase in the length of alkyl side chains led to a decrease in melting point temperature, while an increase in the amount of fluorine atoms in the cation chemical structure led to higher crystallinity and lower thermal stability. The best thermal stability was observed in monofluorinated- and butyl-TFSI PILs in liquid state, while the lowest thermal stability was found in trifluorinated- and vinyl-TFA PILs in solid state.

Task-specific ionic liquids as absorbents and catalysts for efficient capture and conversion of H2S into value-added mercaptan acids

Xiaomin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed a series of task-specific ionic liquids as absorbents and catalysts for the capture and conversion of H2S into high valuable mercaptan acids. The conversion process achieved good to quantitative conversion with catalytic loading of ILs, and a plausible reaction-separation-integration strategy was proposed for efficient conversion. Overall, this work presents a green, simple, and effective method for the capture and catalytic conversion of H2S.

Protic ionic liquids from di- or triamines: even cheaper Bronsted acidic catalysts

Alina Brzeczek-Szafran et al.

Summary: The dicationic and tricationic ionic liquids, synthesized by proton transfer from sulfuric acid and corresponding di- and triamines, show potential as Bronsted acidic catalysts in biodiesel production. These new ionic liquids are cost-effective and highly acidic, outperforming sulfuric acid and other catalysts in catalytic esterification reactions by absorbing water and phase-separating the ester. The interplay between acidity and physical properties, such as density and viscosity, enables easy phase separation of water from the ester, while substrate scope and recycling studies demonstrate their robustness and recyclability as catalysts.
