Energy- and water-integrated management system to promote the low-carbon manufacturing industry: an interdisciplinary Mexican case study

Josue Aaron Lopez-Leyva et al.

Summary: This study presents the experimental results of the CO2 emission factor of a manufacturing company through the application of an energy and water integrated management system based on ISO 50001 and ISO 46001 standards. The results show that the manufacturing company reduced its CO2 emission factor by approximately 19.88% in 2021 compared to 2020, with energy and water use reductions of approximately 12.66% and approximately 15.23%, respectively. The study also identifies relevant issues and opportunities that can serve as recommendations for improving the overall CO2 emission factor.

Factors controlling and influencing polymorphism, morphology and size of calcium carbonate synthesized through the carbonation route: A review

Freddy Liendo et al.

Summary: CaCO3 particles are widely used in various fields due to their adjustable size and morphology, tailored porosity and surface area, biocompatibility and non-toxicity. The carbonation method for synthesizing CaCO3 is considered to be the most environmentally friendly and innovative approach, which can potentially mitigate CO2 emissions. This method can also utilize various waste materials as raw inputs, reducing the environmental impact. This review article focuses on the process parameters and control of particle size, morphology, and crystalline phase in the synthesis of CaCO3 through the carbonation method. Additionally, the current applications and roles of CaCO3 in different fields are discussed.
