Long-Term Shoreline and Islands Change Detection with Digital Shoreline Analysis Using RS Data and GIS

Girish Gopinath et al.

Summary: This study assessed the changes in the coastline of Kavvayi beach and its nine islands in a tropical coastal wetland using remote sensing data and GIS. The analysis showed significant changes over the past 25 years, including erosion and accretion processes. The study also investigated and discussed the causes of shoreline changes on the islands, such as anomalies and the formation of new structures within the wetland.

Southeast Asia island coastline changes and driving forces from 1990 to 2015

Yuxin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated changes in island coastlines in South East Asia (SEA) between 1990 and 2015 using an integrated workflow, including coastline extraction, analysis of changes, and discussion of driving forces based on remote sensing technology and GIS spatial analysis. More than 9000 islands were extracted, with approximately 12% showing changes in coastlines, resulting in a decrease in area totaling 251 km(2) and an increase in coastline length by 821 km.

Mapping Australia's dynamic coastline at mean sea level using three decades of Landsat imagery

Robbi Bishop-Taylor et al.

Summary: Accurate, robust, and consistent coastline mapping is crucial for managing coastal change. This study presents a new dataset, Digital Earth Australia Coastlines, documenting three decades of coastal change across Australia using satellite imagery and tidal modeling. The findings reveal that 22% of Australia's non-rocky coastline has retreated or grown significantly since 1988, with 16% changing at a rate greater than 0.5 meters per year.
