Graphene-based materials for effective adsorption of organic and inorganic pollutants: A critical and comprehensive review

This review article focuses on the use of graphene- and its composite-based adsorbents for the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants from wastewater. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of synthesis methods, experimental parameters, adsorption behavior, isotherms, kinetics, thermodynamics, mechanisms, and regeneration-desorption processes. It also discusses the challenges, limitations, and future research directions in this field.

Graphene oxide-Fe3O4 nanocomposite used as aniline adsorbent with a wide pH range

Summary: In this study, a graphene oxide-Fe3O4 nanocomposite with high aniline adsorption capacity was successfully prepared. The adsorption of aniline by s-GO-Fe3O4 involves a combination of pi-pi interaction, acid-base reaction, and hydrogen bonds. The nanocomposite follows the pseudosecond-order kinetics model and Freundlich isotherm model during the adsorption of aniline.

Summary: In this study, Fe-MCG was synthesized and used for the adsorptive removal of SSA in aqueous solution. Characterization techniques confirmed the successful formation of the composite with enhanced microstructure and superparamagnetic properties. The adsorption capacity was high and the underlying mechanisms for the uptake of SSA onto Fe-MCG were identified.

Summary: Due to water scarcity and industrialization, pharmaceutical wastewater treatment has become particularly important. In this study, a synthetic nano-composite was proposed as an efficient method to remove pharmaceutical pollutants from the environment. Binary and ternary nanocomposites were prepared and characterized, and their effectiveness in removing diclofenac and amoxicillin as pharmaceuticals was tested. The results showed that the prepared nanocomposites are alternative adsorbents for removing pharmaceuticals from water.

Progress for Co-Incorporation of Polydopamine and Nanoparticles for Improving Membranes Performance

Summary: This paper highlights the incorporation of polydopamine and nanomaterial fillers for membrane modification. Specifically, the use of graphene oxide nanoparticles with polydopamine is discussed for enhancing membrane properties. The paper also reviews the studies on using polydopamine as a nanofiller to optimize membrane performance. Perspectives and future research directions are provided for the co-incorporation of mussel-inspired polydopamine and nanoparticles. Overall, this review provides insights into designing new polymeric membranes for water treatment based on adhesive mussel-inspired polydopamine polymer and nanomaterial combinations.

Graphene oxide membranes with stable porous structure for ultrafast water transport

Summary: The study presents a highly stable and ultrapermeable zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)-nanocrystal-hybridized graphene oxide membrane prepared using ice templating and in situ crystallization of ZIF-8. The selective growth of ZIF-8 in microporous defects enhances water permeability and mechanical integrity, leading to a 30-fold increase in permeability compared to graphene oxide membranes (GOms). The technique also improves permselectivity and offers potential for developing next-generation nanofiltration membranes.
