Effects of co-modified biochar immobilized laccase on remediation and bacterial community of PAHs-contaminated soil

Zeqi Zheng et al.

Summary: This study prepared co-modified biochar immobilized laccase named Fe3O4@NaBC@GA@LC and investigated its potential for remediating PAHs-contaminated soil in steel plants. Compared to free laccase treatment, Fe3O4@NaBC@GA@LC retained 60% relative activity after 50 days of incubation at room temperature and nearly 80% relative activity after five reuses. In simulated PAHs-contaminated soil treatment experiments, immobilized laccase exhibited efficient adsorption and degradation capabilities, with a removal rate of over 90% for 5-ring PAHs in 40 days. This study highlights the potential of Fe3O4@NaBC@GA@LC as a promising candidate for PAHs-contaminated soil remediation.

Laccase: A potential biocatalyst for pollutant degradation*

Cheng-Di Dong et al.

Summary: In the process of urbanization, anthropogenic activities, industrialization, and economic growth have led to waste management problems, disposal issues, and the emergence of pollutants. To maintain a sustainable environment, bioremediation using microorganisms or enzymes is a promising solution. Laccase, an oxidoreductase enzyme produced by microorganisms, has shown great potential in degrading chemical pollutants. However, challenges such as immobilization and engineering of robust laccase need to be addressed for large-scale application in waste treatment and emerging pollutant degradation.

A review on sustainable technologies for pharmaceutical elimination in wastewaters-A ubiquitous problem of modern society

Sanja Radovic et al.

Summary: This review summarizes low-cost technologies for the treatment of pharmaceutical-loaded wastewaters, focusing on the commonly found NSAIDs - diclofenac and naproxen. The evaluated technologies include adsorption, coagulation/flocculation, algal ponds, and constructed wetlands, as well as their hybridization/combination technologies. The review highlights the simplicity, availability, cost-effectiveness, environmental-friendliness, and high efficiency of these technologies for the removal of diclofenac and naproxen under environmentally relevant conditions. The results show that hybrid/combined systems can overcome the inhibition of coexisting species and achieve a higher removal rate compared to single technologies.
