SEASONAL CHANGES IN SHELL MICROSTRUCTURE OF SOME COMMON BIVALVE MOLLUSCS IN THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION

Lowell W. Fritz et al.

Summary: The shell growth patterns of bivalve molluscs can provide insights into environmental parameters and growth history. This article summarizes the seasonal shell microstructure of six common bivalve species.

First report and molecular analysis of population stability of the invasive Gulf wedge clam, Rangia cuneata (GB Sowerby I, 1832) in the Pomerian Bay (Southern Baltic Sea)

R. Panicz et al.

Summary: This study reports the new occurrence sites of Gulf wedge clam in the Pomeranian Bay and the Szczecin Lagoon, and describes the structure and stability of the new population using ecological indicators and genetic analysis. The results show a population dominated by adult clams and low genetic diversity. The population has undergone a moderate bottleneck and may have experienced population admixture.

Allometric Characteristics of Rice Seedlings under Different Transplanted Hills and Row Spacing: Impacts on Nitrogen Use Efficiency and Yield

Xiaoyan Wu et al.

Summary: The number of seedlings per hill and the configuration of plant row spacing are important factors for improving rice yield. The study found that planting 1 seedling per hill and dense planting can be the most effective in increasing rice yield.

The fingernail clams (Bivalvia: Veneroida: Sphaeriidae) of Morocco: Diversity, distribution and conservation status

Hanane Rassam et al.

Summary: In Morocco, uncertainties surround the current diversity and distribution of the bivalve family Sphaeriidae. Investigative studies have revealed Sebou Basin to be the richest in species, while Loukkos and Sous-Massa Basins have the lowest species richness. This marks the first evaluation of the diversity and species richness of the family Sphaeriidae in Morocco with an updated conservation status of the recorded species.

Shell morphology, growth and longevity of Unio tumidus (Bivalvia: Unionidae) from an archaeological site and contemporary population inhabiting the Oder estuary

Przemyslaw Czerniejewski et al.

Summary: This study compared two sample groups of swollen river mussel (Unio tumidus) which occurred during the Early Middle Ages (EMS) and currently (MS) in the Oder river estuary (Baltic basin). The results showed that the mussels in the EMS group had larger shell sizes and longer longevity compared to the MS group, potentially due to differences in age structure and a higher mortality rate.
