Evaluation of Water Resources Utilization Efficiency Based on DEA and AHP under Climate Change

Shanjun Zhang et al.

Summary: In the context of climate change, improving water resource utilization efficiency is important to alleviate the increasingly serious problem of water scarcity. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) are commonly used for evaluating water resource utilization efficiency. However, using only one method cannot consider the influence of both objective and subjective factors. This study proposes a water resources utilization efficiency index (WEI) that combines both DEA and AHP methods to evaluate the water resources utilization efficiency in the Tumen River Basin (TRB). The results show an upward trend in WEI values for most areas in the TRB between 2014 and 2019, indicating improvements in water use efficiency. Technical efficiency is identified as the main factor influencing water use efficiency in the TRB. This study provides a basis for water resource management and mitigation of water scarcity in the context of climate change.

Managed aquifer recharge for agriculture in Australia - History, success factors and future implementation

Declan Page et al.

Summary: Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) is the intentional recharge of water to aquifers for subsequent recovery or environmental benefit. MAR can increase water security in drought more economically than new dams, augment existing dams with higher efficiency storage, augment groundwater desalination schemes, and facilitate conjunctive use of surface and groundwater resources. Australia currently has 10 operational MAR schemes to increase agricultural activity, providing a total capacity of around 70 x 10(6) m(3)/year.

The total factor productivity index of freshwater aquaculture in China: based on regional heterogeneity

Shen Zhong et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the total factor productivity (TFP) of freshwater aquaculture in China from 2004 to 2019 using a meta-frontier Malmquist index (MMI) model considering regional heterogeneity. The results revealed significant fluctuations in TFP over time, with inland regions outperforming coastal regions. Changes in technology and technical efficiency were identified as key drivers of TFP variation.

Global spatio-temporal change assessment in interregional water stress footprint in China by a high resolution MRIO model

Han Zhao et al.

Summary: Developing effective strategies to alleviate water stress in China requires an understanding of how consumption and production impact water stress. In this study, a high-resolution international input-output model was used to analyze the impact of changes in China's interprovincial and international trade patterns on water stress footprints. The results showed that China's inter-provincial trade has led to an increasing water stress, with the outsourcing of water stress from eastern coastal regions to Central and Western regions being prominent. China has also become a net exporter of water stress, with a significant portion of exports going to developing countries.
