Quantifying the influence of long-term overexploitation on deep groundwater resources across Cangzhou in the North China Plain using InSAR measurements

Lin Bai et al.

Summary: This study estimates the exploitable groundwater storage (GWS) and GWS depletion in the confined aquifer system in Cangzhou, China, using InSAR deformation, skeletal storativity estimation, hydraulic head observations, and hydrogeological data. The results highlight the threat posed by long-term overexploitation to water supply security and the irreversible loss of groundwater storage capacity.

Sub-regional groundwater storage recovery in North China Plain after the South-to-North water diversion project

Chong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of the South-to-North water diversion Middle Route Project (MRP) on groundwater storage in North China Plain (NCP) by comparing changes before and after MRP operation. It found a significant recovery trend in groundwater storage after the operation of MRP, particularly in regions where groundwater over-utilization had occurred.
