Record-breaking rain falls at Greenland summit controlled by warm moist-air intrusion

Min Xu et al.

Summary: On 14 August 2021, rain was recorded for the first time on the peak of Greenland. The rain was caused by the advection of warm and moist air from the southwest brought by a high-pressure ridge. Unlike the previous warm events in 2012 and 2019, the 2021 event had a different atmospheric pressure field and moisture transport pattern, with moisture ascending from the southwest. The presence of sufficient warm and moist air was the key factor in the 2021 rain event.

Processing methodology for the ITS_LIVE Sentinel-1 icevelocity products

Yang Lei et al.

Summary: The study presents the image-pair ice velocity product and processing methodology for ESA Sentinel-1 radar data, with improvements in resolution, accuracy, and computational efficiency. The research applies a novel calibration to correct for instrument biases and reduces the impact of ionospheric errors. Through validation and comparison, the study finds that the overall variation in the products is around 100 m yr-1, with a velocity magnitude uncertainty of approximately 60 m yr-1.

Autonomous Repeat Image Feature Tracking (autoRIFT) and Its Application for Tracking Ice Displacement

Yang Lei et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient feature tracking algorithm for mass processing of satellite images, demonstrating its accuracy and effectiveness in measuring displacements. The study also compares error sources for radar and optical image pairs, and compares estimated velocities with reference data, showing the advantages of the new algorithm.

Global time series and temporal mosaics of glacier surface velocities derived from Sentinel-1 data

Peter Friedl et al.

Summary: Consistent and continuous glacier surface velocity data are essential for time series analysis, numerical modeling, and glacier mass flux calculations. The Sentinel-1 satellite constellation, part of the EU's Copernicus program, has been providing global, near-real-time glacier surface velocity information through repeat-pass synthetic aperture radar data, processed using high-performance computing techniques.
