Estimation of Urban Evapotranspiration at High Spatiotemporal Resolution and Considering Flux Footprints

Lihao Zhou et al.

Summary: This study proposes a PT-Urban model for the accurate estimation of urban evapotranspiration (ET) at a high spatiotemporal resolution. The model was validated using observations from an urban flux site and showed satisfactory performance. The study highlights the importance of considering urban canopy heat storage and shading effects in the estimation of urban ET.

The estimation and partitioning of evapotranspiration in a coniferous plantation in subtropical China

Mingjie Xu et al.

Summary: This study applied the improved SWH model to estimate forest evapotranspiration and its components in a subtropical plantation. The model performed relatively well in tracking seasonal variations but was weaker in estimating interannual variabilities. The results provided a basis for further improving and optimizing the modeled results under different climate backgrounds.

On the Sensitivity of Standardized-Precipitation-Evapotranspiration and Aridity Indexes Using Alternative Potential Evapotranspiration Models

Aristoteles Tegos et al.

Summary: This paper examines the impacts of three different potential evapotranspiration (PET) models on drought severity and frequencies indicated by the standardized precipitation index (SPEI). The findings highlight the presence of uncertainty in defining the severity of drought, especially for large timescales, and suggest that the PET parametric model is a preferable model for both the standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index and the aridity indexes. This outcome is worth further consideration for climatic studies in data scarce areas.

Atmospheric Factors Affecting Global Solar and Photosynthetically Active Radiation Relationship in a Mediterranean Forest Site

Nikolaos D. Proutsos et al.

Summary: This study analyzed radiation data from a forest site in Greece from 2009 to 2014 to examine the impact of meteorological variables on the ratio of photosynthetically active to global solar radiation. The results showed that the atmospheric water content and clearness were the most influential factors in determining the composition of global solar radiation in the wavelengths of PAR. Temperature and other meteorological attributes had a minor effect on the ratio.

Micrometeorological and Hydraulic Properties of an Urban Green Space on a Warm Summer Day in a Mediterranean City (Attica-Greece)

Nikolaos D. Proutsos et al.

Summary: Urban green spaces play a vital role in mitigating urban heat islands by influencing surface temperatures and reflectance through vegetation types and optical properties. Different elements of urban green spaces show distinct differences in surface temperature and albedo. Tree shades, dry bare soil, and concrete surfaces exhibit higher surface temperatures compared to grass-covered areas.

Misconceptions of Reference and Potential Evapotranspiration: A PRISMA-Guided Comprehensive Review

Ali Raza et al.

Summary: Evapotranspiration (ET) is one of the most important parts of the hydrological cycle. Accurate estimation of ET in irrigated regions is crucial for the planning, control, and regulation of agricultural natural resources. PET and RET are two primary forms of ET, but they have different concepts, equations, and application areas. Therefore, terminology clarification is necessary to ensure accurate use of the terms.

A note on some uncertainties associated with Thornthwaite's aridity index introduced by using different potential evapotranspiration methods

Nikolaos D. Proutsos et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of different PET methods on the aridity index AI, showing that the PET method significantly affects climate classification and requires adjustments of aridity class threshold values based on the method used. New threshold values for aridity classes are proposed in this work for sites in the Greek peninsula.
