Diverse responses of canopy conductance to heatwaves

Longhao Wang et al.

Summary: Heatwaves have been significantly increasing, causing serious impacts on the biosphere. The health of the ecosystem is adversely affected by alterations in the vegetation canopy due to high temperatures and water deficit. However, the behavior of canopy resilience in different ecosystems towards heatwaves remains less understood.

What is the past, present, and future of scientific research on the Yellow River Basin? -A bibliometric analysis

Zhihao He et al.

Summary: Research in China's Yellow River Basin has seen increasing interest and publications, with a focus on farming, water, soil, and environment. Key research topics have centered around the impacts of climate change and human activities on sediment, soil erosion and vegetation restoration, and the relationship between crops and environment in the Loess Plateau. Climate change and the Loess Plateau have gained significant attention in recent years.

Estimation of global GPP from GOME-2 and OCO-2 SIF by considering the dynamic variations of GPP-SIF relationship

Jia Bai et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that GPP and SIF have a strong linear relationship and exhibit similar spatial and temporal patterns. However, their responses to the environment may differ. To investigate the impact of the dynamics in GPP-SIF relationship on GPP estimation, two GPP models were established. Considering the variations of GPP-SIF relationship can improve GPP simulation to a certain extent, but the performance of one model is not as good as the other due to associated uncertainties.

Land cover change-induced decline in terrestrial gross primary production over the conterminous United States from 2001 to 2016

Yulong Zhang et al.

Summary: Land cover change (LCC) is a dynamic aspect of global environmental change with uncertain impacts on carbon budgets, and a study focusing on the conterminous United States found that LCC had a significant negative effect on Gross Primary Production (GPP) due to forest loss and urban expansion, partially offset by increases in crop area.

Tracking the seasonal and inter-annual variations of global gross primary production during last four decades using satellite near-infrared reflectance data

Songhan Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers used satellite data to generate a global long-term GPP dataset and found that NIRv can accurately capture the seasonal and annual variations of GPP. Analysis at 104 flux sites showed that this dataset can effectively estimate global vegetation primary productivity.

Mapping Land Use/Cover Dynamics of the Yellow River Basin from 1986 to 2018 Supported by Google Earth Engine

Qiulei Ji et al.

Summary: The Yellow River basin has experienced complex land use/cover changes, mainly transitioning from forests, grasslands, and croplands to orchards and terraces. These changes have not only increased greenness but also raised income, driving the region towards sustainable development goals such as livelihood security, economic growth, and ecological protection.

Vegetation greening in more than 94% of the Yellow River Basin (YRB) region in China during the 21st century caused jointly by warming and anthropogenic activities

Feng Tian et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of reliable detection and observation of vegetation changes in maintaining the ecological balance in northern China. Significant vegetation greening and browning trends have been observed in the Yellow River Basin during the 21st century, largely driven by factors such as climate warming, population increase, and afforestation.

Seasonal changes in GPP/SIF ratios and their climatic determinants across the Northern Hemisphere

Anping Chen et al.

Summary: The study found strong seasonal variations in the relationship between satellite-derived sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) and gross primary production (GPP) across the Northern Hemisphere (NH), with a hump-shaped pattern of GPP/SIF ratio over northern latitudes. The seasonal amplitude of the GPP/SIF ratio decreased from high latitudes to drylands and the tropics, with different vegetation types exhibiting varying seasonal trends. In most parts of the NH, the lowest GPP/SIF values were observed in October or September, while the highest values were seen in June and July, indicating a distinct seasonal dynamic influenced by temperature and precipitation.

Uncertainty Analysis of Multisource Land Cover Products in China

Longhao Wang et al.

Summary: Satellite-based land cover products are essential for sustainability, with different types of products exhibiting varying levels of uncertainty in their accuracy. This study in China utilized multiple land cover datasets to analyze spatial and temporal changes in forest and nontree vegetation, finding overall low uncertainty but significant differences in local areas. As spatial resolution decreases, so does uncertainty, with a resolution of 0.1 degrees being a turning point in consistency.
