Agronomic and Physiological Response of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) to Nitrogen Fertilization Rate on a Loess Soil of Northwest China

Dominic Kwadwo Anning et al.

Summary: The tuber yield of potato in China is relatively low due to poor nitrogen management. Excessive nitrogen fertilization reduces nitrogen use efficiency and increases production costs, resulting in lower profit margins. This study found that an appropriate nitrogen fertilization rate can increase potato yield and net income. For the Qingshu 9 cultivar grown on loess soil in Northwest China, the nitrogen fertilization rate should not exceed 150 kg/ha.

Effects of irrigation and fertilization on different potato varieties growth, yield and resources use efficiency in the Northwest China

Yingying Xing et al.

Summary: The scarcity of irrigation water is a major constraint for global crop production, especially for potato growth in arid and semiarid regions. Field experiments were conducted to study the effects of irrigation amount, fertilizer rate, and potato variety on potato yield, quality, and water and fertilizer productivity. The results showed significant impacts of these factors on potato growth, with Feiurita variety performing better than Xiapoti variety. The W2F3V1 and W3F2V1 treatments were recommended as the best water and fertilizer management in sandy loam soils in Northwest China.

Optimizing irrigation amount and potassium rate to simultaneously improve tuber yield, water productivity and plant potassium accumulation of drip-fertigated potato in northwest China

Shaohui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of irrigation amount and potassium fertilizer use on the yield and quality of drip-irrigated potato in northwest China. The results show that appropriate irrigation amount and potassium fertilizer use can improve potato yield and quality, which is important for water-saving and fertilizer-saving potato production.

Potato growth, photosynthesis, yield, and quality response to regulated deficit drip irrigation under film mulching in a cold and arid environment

Fuqiang Li et al.

Summary: The study found that applying different levels of regulated deficit irrigation at different stages of potato growth significantly affects growth and yield. Mild deficit irrigation in the seedling stage has a positive impact on potato yield and water use efficiency, and applying mild to moderate deficit irrigation in the seedling stage can improve potato quality.
