Multifunctional Cellulosic Natural Rubber and Silver Nanoparticle Films with Superior Chemical Resistance and Antibacterial Properties

Goragot Supanakorn et al.

Summary: Composite films of natural rubber/cellulose fiber/silver nanoparticle were synthesized via the latex solution process. The composites exhibited high tensile strength, heat resistance, and biodegradability. The chemical resistance and antibacterial activity were enhanced by controlling the sizes and concentrations of silver nanoparticles. In vitro cytotoxicity tests showed non/weak and moderate cytotoxicity of the composite films.

Effect of Size, Shape and Surface Functionalization on the Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles

Arianna Menichetti et al.

Summary: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are extensively studied antibacterial agents against multidrug resistant (MDR) pathogens, capable of causing cellular death through various mechanisms, targeting different cell compartments. The effectiveness of AgNPs against MDR bacteria is influenced by their chemical and morphological properties, which affect the related cellular damage pathways. This review focuses on the size, shape, and modifications of AgNPs to explore synthetic pathways and evaluate their impact on antibacterial activity, aiming to develop new and improved silver-based agents to combat multidrug resistance.

Bacterial cellulose reinforced with skim/fresh natural rubber latex for improved mechanical, chemical and dielectric properties

Praewpakun Sintharm et al.

Summary: Bacterial cellulose films were reinforced by immersion in natural rubber latex, which improved their mechanical, chemical, and dielectric properties. The use of skim natural rubber latex resulted in higher loading and better strengthening effects compared to fresh natural rubber latex. The reinforced films exhibited enhanced structural stability in water and good chemical resistance. They were also biodegradable in soil. The dielectric properties of the films were significantly improved by the addition of skim natural rubber latex.
