Assessing Alternative Pre-Treatment Methods to Promote Essential Oil Fixation into Cotton and Polyethylene Terephthalate Fiber: A Comparative Study

Hanane Tansaoui et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop new fabrics with refreshing feeling, ecological properties, and antimicrobial functions for medicinal applications. Geranium essential oils (GEO) were incorporated into polyester and cotton fabrics using methods like ultrasound, diffusion, and padding. The results showed that ultrasound was the most effective method for incorporating GEO into fabric, resulting in improved color strength, significant antibacterial activity, and stable odor intensity. The textile impregnated with geranium essential oil was suggested as a potential material in cosmetic applications due to its eco-friendliness, reusability, antibacterial properties, and refreshing feeling.
