Novel polyaniline-halloysite nanoclay hybrid composites: Synthesis, physico-chemical, thermal and electrical properties

Ramanath Prabhu et al.

Summary: Polyaniline-halloysite nanoclay composites (PHC) were successfully prepared through inverted emulsion polymerization technique using benzoyl peroxide (BP) as the oxidizing agent. The FTIR spectra showed vibration bands associated with the stretching of NH, benzenoid, and quinoid rings. The specific conductance of the composites decreased with increasing halloysite nanoclay concentration, while the XRD pattern exhibited peaks at 20.08(0) and 25.34(0). Thermogravimetric analysis indicated improved thermal resistance compared to pure polyaniline. Field emission scanning electron microscopy revealed agglomeration of polyaniline particles and coating on halloysite nanoclay. The AC specific conductance increased due to the formation of bipolar and polarons, while the dielectric constant decreased with increasing frequency. The highest dielectric constant was observed for PHC (70/30) at 10(2) Hz, with a value of 14.

Preparation of Anionic Surfactant-Based One-Dimensional Nanostructured Polyaniline Fibers for Hydrogen Storage Applications

Hatem A. A. Al-Aoh et al.

Summary: Polyaniline fibers were nucleated in one dimension in an ice medium with the presence of anionic surfactant and compared to bulk polyaniline prepared at an optimum temperature. Structural analysis using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) was conducted. The conductivity study revealed higher conductivity of polyaniline fibers compared to bulk polyaniline. Hydrogen storage measurements demonstrated the ability of polyaniline fibers to adsorb and desorb hydrogen at high capacity and lower temperatures.

Multifunctional Chitosan/Xylan-Coated Magnetite Nanoparticles for the Simultaneous Adsorption of the Emerging Contaminants Pb(II), Salicylic Acid, and Congo Red Dye

Hebatullah H. Farghal et al.

Summary: In this study, chitosan/xylan-coated magnetite (CsXM) nanoparticles were developed as eco-friendly efficient adsorbents for contaminant removal from water. The CsXM was successfully prepared with mesoporous structure, thermal stability, and neutral charge. Three representative pollutants, Pb(II), salicylic acid (SA), and congo red (CR), were effectively removed by CsXM, with Pb(II) and SA showing higher adsorption compared to CR. The adsorption followed the Freundlich isotherm model and the pseudo-second order kinetic model, and the binding mechanisms differed for different pollutants.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Polymer Nanocomposites with Supramolecular Network Constructed via Functionalized Polymer End-Grafted Nanoparticles

Guanyi Hou et al.

Summary: Since the proposal of self-healing materials, extensive research has been conducted on their potential applications in various fields. However, there is limited knowledge on the relationship between the morphology of the dynamic crosslink network and the overall properties of self-healing polymer nanocomposites (PNCs). In this study, modified nanoparticles with different sphericity were used to create a supramolecular network in PNCs, and the relationship between the network morphology and mechanical performance and self-healing behavior was analyzed. The findings suggest that increasing sphericity leads to a more uniform distribution of the supramolecular network, and the completeness of the network hinders the mobility of the polymer matrix chains. The mechanical performance is mainly influenced by the supramolecular network, while the self-healing efficiency depends on the variation of sphericity. The study highlights the importance of grafting density in enhancing the mechanical and self-healing performance of PNCs with modified nanoparticles.

Understanding the Effect of Deposition Technique on the Structure-Property Relationship of Polyaniline Thin Films Applied in Potentiometric pH Sensor

Vinicius M. Fraga et al.

Summary: The relationship between the sensitivity and correlation coefficient of potentiometric pH sensors and the structure-property relationship of polyaniline thin films was explored in this study. The effect of the deposition method on the sample's properties was evaluated. Galvanostatically electrodeposited films showed higher average sensitivity, 73.4 +/- 1.3 mV/pH, compared to spin-coated films, 59.2 +/- 2.5 mV/pH. The morphology and thickness of the electrodeposited films contributed to their higher sensitivity, while their oxidation state confirmed their sensing performance.

Adsorptive removal of indomethacin and diclofenac from water by polypyrrole doped-GO/COF-300 nanocomposites

Jing-Bo Feng et al.

Summary: An effective adsorbent of polypyrrole doped GO/COF-300 (GO/COF-300/PPy) nanocomposite was prepared, showing high adsorption capacity for removing indomethacin (IDM) and diclofenac (DCF) from aqueous solution with good reusability. The nanocomposite exhibited fast adsorption equilibrium, conformed to pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm model, and maintained high removal efficiency even under high concentration of humic acid in the environment. This study suggests the potential application of GO/COF-300/PPy nanocomposites in water environmental remediation.
