Effects of urea loading on soil biodegradation properties of melt-processed polycaprolactone-based composites for potential application in agriculture

Mpho Phillip Motloung et al.

Summary: In this study, biodegradable composites of PCL/HAP/urea were developed for potential agricultural applications. The effects of urea loading on the morphological, flow properties, and soil biodegradation of the composites were investigated. The results showed that the inclusion of urea affected the dispersion, viscosity, and surface degradation of the composites. PCL/HAP/urea composites with enhanced degradation rates were developed, making them suitable for burying after use in agriculture.

Technological Aspects and Evaluation Methods for Polymer Matrices as Dental Drug Carriers

Dorota Kida et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the development of polymer matrices as dental drug carriers and addresses the influence of composition and manufacturing technology on carrier properties. It also discusses testing methods for assessing carrier behavior and formulation properties. The first part of the paper examines the methods for fabricating dental drug carriers, such as solvent casting, lyophilization, electrospinning, and 3D printing, highlighting their advantages and limitations. The second part of the paper focuses on the testing methods for evaluating the physical, chemical, pharmaceutical, biological, and in vivo properties of the formulations. Comprehensive in vitro evaluation allows for optimization of formulation parameters and selection of the optimal oral application formulation.

Biodegradable Mulching Films Based on Polycaprolactone and Its Porous Structure Construction

Ning Yang et al.

Summary: This study introduced thermally-induced phase separation to fabricate a nanoporous PCL thin film, which exhibited enhanced temperature-increasing and moisturizing properties when used as a mulch film. The nanoporous structure improved the soil temperature and reduced water vapor transmission rate, effectively suppressing weed growth.

Degradability and Properties of PBAT-Based Biodegradable Mulch Films in Field and Their Effects on Cotton Planting

Qi Liu et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of biodegradable mulches (BDMs) and polythene (PE) films on cotton production, and investigated the degradation behavior and property changes. The results showed that the BDMs gradually degraded during mulching, but to a lesser extent compared to PE films. These findings are important for promoting the application of BDMs in cotton fields.

Improvement of mechanical, thermal and antimicrobial properties of organically modified montmorillonite loaded polycaprolactone for food packaging

Merve Eryilmaz Seyrek et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate biodegradable packaging materials as an alternative to traditional synthetic packaging materials. The inclusion of organically modified montmorillonite to PCL films improved their thermal and mechanical properties and showed antimicrobial effects against Staphylococcus aureus. The prepared films also demonstrated antifungal properties, with the film-wrapped bread remaining undeteriorated for 40 days.
