Fabrication of Hydroxy-Terminated Polybutadiene with Piezoelectric Property by Functionalized Branch Chain Modification

Bo Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, a hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB)-based piezoelectric polymer (m-HTPB) was prepared for the first time using a functionalized branch chain modification strategy. The introduction of functionalized acetylferrocene groups to the cis-1,4 polybutadiene branch chain of HTPB retained its high cis-1,4 content. The m-HTPB showed higher conductance and was used for in situ and real-time pressure monitoring, providing a promising material for flexible piezoelectric sensors.

Summary: Epoxy polymers with improved thermal and mechanical properties were obtained by adding hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) to epoxy resin. Graphene nanoplatelets were used to prepare epoxy-urethane polymer nanocomposites, which exhibited enhanced thermal stability and increased glass transition temperature. The obtained epoxy-urethane showed good flexibility as a coating material, and the surface roughness of the samples increased.

Interaction Mechanism of Composite Propellant Components under Heating Conditions

Jiahao Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interactions between two binder systems, HTPB and HTPE, and their interactions with AP under different thermal conditions. The results showed that HTPB had higher decomposition peak temperatures compared to HTPE, and the microstructure of HTPB became brittle while that of HTPE liquefied when heated. Combustion characteristics indicated that the components interacted, with different combustion behaviors observed for HTPB/AP and HTPE/AP mixtures at varying temperatures. Under high-temperature conditions, HTPB/AP/Al propellants exhibited stronger combustion and interactions compared to HTPE/AP/Al propellants, and heated HTPE/AP mixtures acted as a barrier reducing propellant responsiveness.

Summary: In this study, hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) was used as a terminal diol prepolymer to prepare low-temperature adaptive self-matting waterborne polyurethane (WPU) using sulfonate AAS and carboxylic acid DMPA as hydrophilic chain extenders. The HTPB-based WPU showed good extinction properties and mechanical properties, making it suitable for application in severe cold weather conditions.

Synthesis and characterization of a novel hydroxy telechelic polyfluoroether to enhance the properties of HTPB solid propellant binders

Wenshuo Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel hydroxy telechelic polyfluoroether (HTPF) was synthesized and introduced into HTPB polyurethane to improve the low-temperature behavior and mechanical properties of solid propellants. The results showed that the microphase-separated structure of the polyurethane was optimized and the bonding effect with aluminum powder was enhanced. Additionally, the tensile strength and elongation at break were significantly increased after the addition of aluminum powder.
