Biomechanical evaluation of the hybrid pedicle screw-cortical bone trajectory technique in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion to adjacent segment degeneration-finite element analysis

Rui Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found through 3-dimensional finite element analysis that the hybrid use of bilateral pedicle screw - bilateral cortical screw and hybrid bilateral cortical screw - bilateral pedicle screw has positive effects on adjacent segment disk degeneration. Among them, the hybrid use of bilateral pedicle screw - bilateral cortical screw has the best results in reducing disc stress and protecting paravertebral tissues.

Summary: This study evaluated the biomechanical characteristics of hybrid CBT-TT and TT-CBT techniques compared to traditional pedicle screw and cortical screw fixation using finite element analysis. The hybrid techniques demonstrated superior fixation strength and lower intervertebral disc stress.

Biomechanical evaluation of a short-rod technique for lumbar fixation surgery

Ze-Bin Huang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the stability and instrument-related complications of lumbar spine fixation using the Short-Rod technique. Through finite element analysis, the optimal screw inclination angle and rod length were determined to be 15 degrees and 35 mm, respectively. The results showed that the Short-Rod technique with this configuration offered good lumbar stability with a low risk of complications.

ALTERNATIVES TO TRADITIONAL PEDICLE SCREWS FOR POSTERIOR FIXATION OF THE DEGENERATIVE LUMBAR SPINE

Alexander A. Rosinski et al.

Summary: Traditional pedicle screws may not always be ideal for degenerative lumbar spine fixation. Non-pedicular techniques such as cortical bone trajectory screws, transfacet screws, and fusion mass screws offer advantages in terms of reduced blood loss, postoperative pain, and length of hospital stay, and can be used as salvage options when traditional pedicle screws fail.
