Linking supply-demand balance of ecosystem services to identify ecological security patterns in urban agglomerations

Summary: Ecological Security Patterns (ESP) is an effective method for identifying priority conservation areas and maintaining regional ecological security. Previous ESP studies focused only on the supply of ecosystem services (ES), neglecting the supply-demand interaction of ES. In this study, a novel large-scale ESP framework was proposed that incorporated the scarcity of ES supply and demand to revise the identification of ecological sources. The results showed that the reconstructed approach significantly increased ecological source areas and enhanced connectivity among them, and the scarcity idea can guide trans-administrative ecological decision making.
