Spatiotemporal patterns of habitat quality and its topographic gradient effects of Hubei Province based on the InVEST model

Pengnan Xiao et al.

Summary: Based on DEM data and land use data, this study evaluated the spatiotemporal differentiation characteristics of habitat quality in Hubei Province using the InVEST model and GIS spatial analysis method. The results show that the habitat quality in Hubei Province varies spatially, with an overall high level. High-quality habitats are mainly located in hilly regions and water areas, while low-quality habitats are mainly distributed in agricultural areas and urban areas. The study also found that the habitat quality increases with the elevation of terrain grade.

Assessment of Topographic Effect on Habitat Quality in Mountainous Area Using InVEST Model

Qing Xiang et al.

Summary: The study used the InVEST model, topographic distribution index, and Mann-Kendall test to investigate the distribution, changing trends, and effects of topographic gradient on habitat quality. The results showed that habitat quality exhibited three types of trends (significant decline, non-significant change, and significant increase) during 2000-2020. High-elevation areas experienced a significant decline due to the livelihood structure of local residents and geological disasters, while low-lying areas showed a significant increase in habitat quality due to forest conservation projects. Middle topographic position showed no significant changes. Suggestions for ecological management and protection measures were provided for different elevation areas.

Spatiotemporal evolution and influencing mechanism of ecosystem service value in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

Zhitao Liu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and investigates the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of ecosystem service value (ESV) from 2000 to 2015. Panel quantile regression is used to analyze the influencing mechanisms of ESV. The main findings are: total ESV in the Greater Bay Area declined during the study period, with decline mainly observed in the central area and along the Pearl River Estuary. The effects of land use change on ESV vary in areas with different ESV levels. Temperature has a positive effect on ESV, while economic density has a negative effect that decreases with an increase in ESV.

Exploring factors influencing urban sprawl and land-use changes analysis using systematic points and random forest classification

Ali Akbar Jamali et al.

Summary: This study examines urban sprawl and land-use changes in Neyriz city, Iran, using systematic points and random forest classification. The study predicts a 12.3% increase in urban areas by 2026, with significant land changes near commercial, educational, administrative, and road areas. The combination of systematic points and random forest classification provides a robust methodology for managing urban sprawl and its environmental implications.

Effects of Land Use/Cover on Regional Habitat Quality under Different Geomorphic Types Based on InVEST Model

Baixue Wang et al.

Summary: Research on the spatiotemporal change of habitat quality based on different geomorphic types provides scientific support for revealing the evolution law of regional ecological environment quality and ecological restoration. This study identified the change in habitat quality under different geomorphic types from 1995 to 2018 and explored the main influencing factors. The results showed significant improvement in habitat quality in 2018 compared to a decrease in 2015.

Spatio-temporal changes in habitat quality and linkage with landscape characteristics in the Beressa watershed, Blue Nile basin of Ethiopian highlands

Hamere Yohannes et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the spatio-temporal changes in habitat quality over the past four decades and predicted trends for the next three decades, finding a decrease in areas with high habitat quality indicators and an increase in areas with poor habitat quality. Anthropogenic land use/land cover expansion was identified as a major contributor to the decline in habitat quality. The study also highlighted the importance of reducing habitat modifications and restoring degraded natural habitats to maintain biodiversity in the area.

Understanding land-use change conflict: a systematic review of case studies

Lotte de Jong et al.

Summary: The increasing demand for food, water, and shelter has changed the way land is used, resulting in conflicts. Research has shown that population growth, overlapping land rights, ethnic fragmentation, and economic inequality are the root causes of conflict related to land-use change, while rises in land prices are the most frequently reported immediate cause. Reported institutional causes indicate that governance mechanisms are not fully equipped to handle the complexity of observed land-use changes.
