Linking forest management and biodiversity indicators to strengthen sustainable forest management in Europe

Janine Oettel et al.

Summary: The study found that arthropods, birds, and plants are the most frequently used biodiversity indicators in European forests. Certain indicators are closely related to specific management measures (such as saproxylic species with deadwood and bird families with microhabitats), and high structural diversity is associated with an increase in biodiversity.

Opportunities and challenges of Eucalyptus plantations in Europe: the Iberian Peninsula experience

Margarida Tome et al.

Summary: Although native to Australia, Eucalyptus species are widely planted in Europe, especially in the Iberian Peninsula, where Eucalyptus globulus is the most common species. Eucalyptus trees play a significant economic role in the pulp and paper industry and for non-industrial landowners. However, their expansion has also brought negative environmental impacts, highlighting the need for appropriate management strategies.

Growth Response to Weed Control and Fertilisation in Mid-Rotation Plantations of Eucalyptus pellita in South Sumatra, Indonesia

Maydra A. Inail et al.

Summary: The study on weed control and nutrient management in Eucalyptus pellita plantations in South Sumatra showed that applying nitrogen did not improve growth, while phosphorus application at planting time did not enhance tree growth. Full weed control throughout rotation is beneficial, especially at lower-productivity sites, to achieve maximum productivity.
