Intravascular Imaging-Guided or Angiography-Guided Complex PCI

Joo Myung Lee et al.

Summary: This study found that intravascular imaging-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can reduce the risk of death from cardiac causes, target-vessel-related myocardial infarction, or clinically driven target-vessel revascularization compared to angiography-guided PCI in patients with complex coronary-artery lesions.

Clinical Outcomes Following Hemodynamic Parameter or Intravascular Imaging-Guided Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in the Era of Drug-Eluting Stents: An Updated Systematic Review and Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis of 28 Randomized Trials and 11,860 Patients

Meng-Jin Hu et al.

Summary: In the era of drug-eluting stent (DES), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) was found to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and cardiovascular death compared to coronary angiography (CAG). Hemodynamic parameter-guided PCI, such as fractional flow reserve (FFR) and quantitative flow ratio (QFR), significantly reduced the risk of stroke compared to CAG, IVUS, and optical coherence tomography (OCT)/optical frequency domain imaging (OFDI).

Optical coherence tomography-guided coronary stent implantation compared to angiography: a multicentre randomised trial in PCI - design and rationale of ILUMIEN IV: OPTIMAL PCI

Ziad A. Ali et al.

Summary: The large-scale ILUMIEN IV trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of OCT-guided versus angiography-guided PCI in improving post-PCI lumen dimensions and clinical outcomes in patients with diabetes and/or complex coronary lesions, with results expected in 2022.

3-Year Outcomes of the ULTIMATE Trial Comparing Intravascular Ultrasound Versus Angiography-Guided Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation

Xiao-Fei Gao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the difference in target vessel failure (TVF) at 3 years after intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) guidance versus angiographic guidance for second-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation in all comers. The results showed that IVUS-guided DES implantation significantly reduced the rates of TVF and stent thrombosis (ST) at 3 years, particularly when the IVUS-defined optimal procedure was followed.

Multi-modality intravascular imaging for guiding coronary intervention and assessing coronary atheroma: the Novasight Hybrid IVUS-OCT system

Retesh Bajaj et al.

Summary: Intravascular imaging has evolved as an important tool in assessing plaque pathology and guiding coronary interventions. The simultaneous use of IVUS and OCT has been shown to overcome their individual limitations and improve plaque assessment accuracy. The Novasight Hybrid IVUS-OCT catheter represents a significant advancement in this field with potential broad applications in clinical practice and research.

External elastic lamina vs. luminal diameter measurement for determining stent diameter by optical coherence tomography: an ILUMIEN III substudy

Evan Shlofmitz et al.

Summary: The study compared vessel diameter measurements and stent diameter selection using EEL-based and automated LD approaches, finding that EEL-based downsizing led to selection of larger stents. Applying correction factors to automated LD measurements resulted in similar mean diameters to EEL-based measurements, but was not clinically feasible due to potential hazardous stent oversizing.
