Samples returned from the asteroid Ryugu are similar to Ivuna-type carbonaceous meteorites

Summary: Carbonaceous meteorites from C-type asteroids were examined using samples from asteroid (162173) Ryugu. The samples resemble carbonaceous chondrite meteorites, particularly the CI group, and are made up of minerals formed in aqueous fluids. These minerals were altered at a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius about 5.2 million years after the formation of the first solids in the Solar System. The Ryugu samples have a composition similar to the Sun's photosphere.

Hadean mantle oxidation inferred from melting of peridotite under lower-mantle conditions

Summary: The formation of the early Earth's mantle is believed to have been highly reducing, but geological evidence suggests it was oxidized. Experiments melting peridotite under deep mantle conditions show that the Fe3+ content of Earth's magma ocean was significantly higher than that of the present upper mantle, explaining the evidence for a highly oxidized Hadean mantle. This oxidation likely ended with the cessation of huge impacts, and the reduction in Fe3+ content and oxidation state of the upper mantle could be attributed to accretion of reduced materials by small impactors during the late Hadean and early Archaean eons.

Uracil in the carbonaceous asteroid (162173) Ryugu

Meteorites and the RNA World: Synthesis of Nucleobases in Carbonaceous Planetesimals and the Role of Initial Volatile Content

The delivery of these molecules onto early Earth could have triggered the polymerization of the first RNA molecules. Partitioning of Fe2+and Fe3+between bridgmanite and silicate melt: Implications for redox evolution of the Earth's mantle

Summary: The chemical heterogeneity of Earth's mantle is formed by the crystallization of deep magma oceans. Previous studies suggest the existence of Fe3+-rich lower mantle based on seismic profiles, which may have led to the gradual oxidation of the upper mantle. However, it remains unclear whether the Fe3+-rich lower mantle and Fe3+-poor upper mantle existed in early Earth. Experimental constraints on the partitioning of Fe2+ and Fe3+ between bridgmanite and silicate melt at high pressures suggest that preferential incorporation of Fe3+ into bridgmanite is unlikely. Another mechanism, such as redox disproportionation of Fe2+, may have played a more significant role in controlling the Fe3+/EFe ratio of the mantle.

First compositional analysis of Ryugu samples by the MicrOmega hyperspectral microscope

Metal compositions of carbonaceous chondrites

A Search for Heterocycles in GOTHAM Observations of TMC-1

Summary: We conducted a search for nitrogen-, oxygen-, and sulfur-bearing heterocycles in TMC-1 using the Green Bank Telescope. However, no evidence was found for the presence of these molecules, despite their common occurrence in terrestrial chemistry. Upper limits on the column densities of these molecules were reported using MCMC analysis and compared to traditional single-line measurements. It was hypothesized why these molecules are absent in the data and how they could form in interstellar space.

Synthesis of Amino Acids from Aldehydes and Ammonia: Implications for Organic Reactions in Carbonaceous Chondrite Parent Bodies

Summary: The Strecker cyanohydrin synthesis is a known mechanism for the formation of amino acids from aldehydes, ammonia, and cyanide. This study explores an alternative mechanism called the ammonia-involved formose-like reaction for amino acid synthesis, and investigates the detailed formation pathways. The results suggest that oxygen in the air promotes amino acid synthesis, and propose a formation mechanism for various structural isomers of amino acids found in carbonaceous chondrites.

On the origin and evolution of the asteroid Ryugu: A comprehensive geochemical perspective
