Cross-Cultural Validation of the Chinese Version of the Health Promoting Activities Scale

Summary: This study translated the Health Promoting Activities Scale (HPAS) into Chinese and assessed its construct validity. The results showed that the Chinese version of HPAS correlated significantly with satisfaction ratings, mental well-being, and psychological distress, and had moderate internal reliability. The study demonstrates that the Chinese version of HPAS is reliable for use with Chinese-speaking mothers of children with disabilities.

Chinese fathers of children with intellectual disabilities: their perceptions of the child, family functioning, and their own needs for emotional support

Summary: As evidence supports family-centered approaches to disability services, parents' experiences raising children with disabilities have gained increasing international attention. However, existing literature on parents of children with disabilities tends to focus on mothers as the primary research subjects. To address this research gap, the author surveyed over 4500 fathers of children with disabilities in Mainland China. The results suggest that fathers tend to believe their children with intellectual disabilities are more difficult to raise and perceive their family functioning as somewhat problematic. The research also found that fathers are generally reluctant to seek emotional support from sources outside their families, although Han fathers and those with higher educational backgrounds are more likely to seek support.

Perceived Stigma Among Serbian Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Children with Physical Disabilities: Validation of a New Instrument

Summary: Limited research has been done on parental perception of stigma. A new scale was developed in this study to examine perceived stigma among Serbian parents of children with ASD and PD. Parents of children with ASD reported higher levels of perceived stigma compared to parents of children with PD. The scale proved to be useful in measuring parental perceived stigma and could be applied in other Eastern European countries.
