The cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric evaluation of a learned helplessness scale for maintenance hemodialysis patients in China (LHS-MHD-C)

Summary: This study aimed to adapt and translate the Arthritis Helplessness Index scale into a Chinese version for maintenance hemodialysis patients in China, and validate its psychometric properties. The results showed that the Chinese version of the scale had good content validity, predictive validity, and concurrent validity. It can distinguish between patients of different characteristics and showed good reliability. Therefore, the Chinese version of the scale is considered a reliable and valid tool for assessing helplessness in Chinese maintenance hemodialysis patients.

Prevalence of depression and anxiety and their predictors among patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis in Northern China: a cross-sectional study

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of depression and anxiety among maintenance hemodialysis patients in Hohhot, China. The findings showed a high prevalence of depression (55.1%) and anxiety (25.9%) in these patients. Lower family income, more comorbidities, and more severe pruritus were identified as risk factors for depression, while infrequent exercise and severe pruritus were identified as risk factors for anxiety. The study also revealed a significant correlation between depression and anxiety in these patients.

Psychosocial barriers and facilitators for adherence to a healthy lifestyle among patients with chronic kidney disease: a focus group study

The study also highlights the importance of social influences and environmental context and resources in influencing patients' engagement in a healthy lifestyle. The findings suggest the need for tailored behavioral lifestyle interventions to support disease self-management.

Psychosocial determinants for adherence to a healthy lifestyle and intervention participation in the FINGER trial: an exploratory analysis of a randomised clinical trial

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of psychosocial factors in adherence to lifestyle interventions and lifestyle changes in dementia prevention. The results showed that several psychosocial factors were associated with participation in lifestyle intervention, but fewer contributed to actual lifestyle changes. Although the intervention was beneficial for lifestyle changes independent of psychosocial factors, those most in need of lifestyle improvement were less likely to be active. Tailoring lifestyle-modifying strategies based on the need for psychosocial support may enhance efficacy in future trials.
