Maneuvering the Peroxidase-Like Activity of Palladium-Based Nanozymes by Alloying with Oxophilic Bismuth for Biosensing

Shiyu Xia et al.

Summary: Engineering the catalytic performance of nanozymes by introducing oxophilic metallic bismuth (Bi) into Pd-based alloy nanocrystals (NCs) is demonstrated in this study. PdBi alloy NCs with controllable shapes and excellent monodispersity are synthesized using a seed-mediated method with the assistance of underpotential deposition (UPD) of Bi on Pd. The PdBi NCs exhibit excellent peroxidase-like activities compared to pristine Pd NCs. The structure-function correlations of the PdBi nanozymes are elucidated, and an indirect colorimetric method for alkaline phosphatase (ALP) detection is established.
