Eco-friendly Synthesis of Carbon Quantum Dots as an Effective Adsorbent

Hebat-Allah S. Tohamy et al.

Summary: Fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were prepared through an economical and environmentally friendly one-step method with the assistance of microwave heating of urea with bagasse (SCB), cellulose (C), or carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). The synthesized CQDs exhibited small size, strong UV absorption, and excitation wavelength-dependent fluorescence. The CQDs showed high efficiency in adsorbing Pb(II) from aqueous solutions, making them excellent materials for applications in wastewater pollution detection, adsorption, and chemical sensing. The Langmuir model was found to be the most suitable for describing the adsorption isotherms of the CQDs.

Boosting the adsorption capacity and photocatalytic activity of activated carbon by graphene quantum dots and titanium dioxide

Hebat-Allah S. Tohamy et al.

Summary: This study aims to enhance the adsorption and photocatalytic efficiency of activated carbon (AC) by formulating new composites with graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and embedding titanium dioxide (TiO2). The results demonstrate that GQDs-TiO2/ AC shows great potential in removing MB dye through adsorption and photo-degradation processes.

Adsorption Kinetics of Edamame Soybean Peel Activated Carbon in Reducing the Level of Phosphate

Iva Rustanti Eri et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption kinetics and capacity of activated carbon from edamame soybean peel in reducing phosphate levels. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity occurred at a 6 mg/L adsorbate concentration and 6 hours of stirring time. The Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics model validated these results.

Carbon dots combined with masking agent for high selectivity detection of Cr(VI) to overcome interference associated challenges

Shengliang Zhao et al.

Summary: The determination of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is crucial for public health due to its wide range of sources and high toxicity. This study presents a novel sensing system composed of strong emitting carbon dots (CE-CDs) and a specific masking agent for highly selective detection of Cr(VI). The optimal detection conditions were found to be pH 4-10, reaction time 180 s, and CE-CDs concentration 18 mg/L. The method demonstrated a linear range up to 500 μm and a low detection limit of 23 nM. The interference of mercury (Hg(II)) was effectively eliminated using DMPS as a masking agent. Furthermore, this method showed applicability for trace detection of Cr(VI) in colored leather with complex matrix.
