Perinatal outcome in case of maternal death for cerebrovascular acute disorders: a nationwide study in Japan

Summary: This study analyzed 35 cases of cerebrovascular diseases related to maternal deaths in Japan during pregnancy. The results showed that more than 40% of cases experienced fetal asphyxia, and 20% ended in fetal death. Maternal respiratory support and rapid delivery were identified as key factors for improving perinatal outcomes.

Maternal death due to serious group A streptococcal toxic shock syndrome reduced after the coronavirus disease pandemic in Japan

Summary: This study found that there have been no maternal deaths due to GAS-TSS reported in Japan after the COVID-19 pandemic, which may be attributed to the widespread use of facemasks and frequent disinfection among the Japanese population. It is recommended to continue wearing facemasks and practicing frequent disinfection during pregnancy to prevent various infectious diseases, including serious GAS infections.

Pregnancy-associated hemorrhagic stroke: A nationwide survey in Japan

Summary: Despite a gradual decrease in maternal deaths, the number of maternal deaths due to pregnancy-associated hemorrhagic stroke has not decreased in Japan. This study aimed to clarify the risk factors of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy-associated hemorrhagic stroke. Analysis of 61 cases revealed that 75% of death cases had hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. It is important to pay attention to pregnant women with hypertension in outpatient clinics to prevent the development of hemorrhage.
