Green synthesis, electrochemical, DFT studies and MD simulation of novel synthesized thiourea derivatives on carbon steel corrosion inhibition in 1.0 M HCl

T. H. El-Mokadem et al.

Summary: The corrosion inhibiting effect of four newly synthesized thiourea derivatives compounds as nontoxic corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl solutions was evaluated by experimental and theoretical studies. The results showed that the inhibitory efficiency of the prepared compounds improves with an increase in their concentrations, and ECP exhibited much higher corrosion inhibition performance compared to ACP, BCP, and HCP. Surface analysis indicated that the inhibitors molecules adhere and construct a stronger protective layer on the steel surface, and quantum chemical calculation and molecular dynamics simulation supported the synthesized thiourea derivatives as environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors.

Corrosion inhibition of steel using different families of organic compounds: Past and present progress

Ruby Aslam et al.

Summary: The application of organic compounds, particularly heterocyclic compounds, as corrosion inhibitors is an effective and economical method to prevent steel corrosion. These compounds form a hydrophobic film on the metal surface to inhibit corrosion. The effectiveness of these compounds depends on the substituents present in their molecular structures. They block active sites responsible for corrosion through adsorption, mainly following the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. These compounds act as mixed- and interface-type corrosion inhibitors, inhibiting both anodic and cathodic Tafel reactions and increasing charge transfer resistance.

Synthesis of 1, 4, 7-triazaheptane derivative and its corrosion inhibition for mild steel in the hydrochloric medium

Jiaxin Wen et al.

Summary: In this study, a corrosion inhibitor called PHET was synthesized and its inhibitive effect on mild steel in acidic solution was investigated. The optimal concentration of PHET in 1.0 M HCl solution was found to be 400 mg/L, with an inhibitive efficiency of 93%. PHET adsorbed on the surface of mild steel by forming complexes with ferrous ions, forming a protective film and exhibiting excellent corrosion inhibition performance.

Study on the effect of imidazolium ionic liquid as a modulator of corrosion inhibition of anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on mild steel in sodium chloride solution

Minakshi Koundal et al.

Summary: The study investigated two organic compounds as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in neutral NaCl solution. Results showed that the addition of SDS and DMImCl could decrease the corrosion rate and increase the inhibition efficiency. Analysis from electrochemical tests indicated that these organic compounds adsorb on the mild steel surface to form a protective film, leading to corrosion inhibition.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of aluminum in 1 M HCl solution with and without thiophene derivatives was studied using altered chemical and electrochemical methods. The research found that thiophene derivatives can improve efficiency in aggressive solutions, but efficiency decreases with rising temperature. The study revealed that the adsorption of the studied thiophene derivatives on the surface of aluminum follows Langmuir isotherm, and discussed thermodynamic parameters such as adsorption constant and free energy of adsorption.
