Liquid-liquid equilibria of ternary mixtures of methanol plus MEG plus n-C5, ethanol + MEG plus n-C5, and n-butanol plus MEG plus n-C5

Vanessa A. A. Mascietti et al.

Summary: New liquid-liquid equilibrium data of ternary systems of mono ethylene glycol + n-pentane + methanol, mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) + n-pentane + ethanol, and mono ethylene glycol + n-pentane + n-butanol were determined. The solubility of alcohols in the mixtures was found to increase with temperature and decrease with increasing alcohol chain length. The obtained experimental data were successfully correlated using the CPA and the PC-SAFT equation with appropriate binary interaction parameters.

Liquid-liquid microextraction techniques based on in-situ formation/decomposition of deep eutectic solvents

Raheleh Ahmadi et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are gaining attention as green alternatives to traditional ionic liquids and hazardous organic solvents due to their low toxicity, easy synthesis procedures, low cost, and high biodegradability. These solvents, which are a mixture of two or more green components with a high capability to form hydrogen bonds, are being rapidly applied in various extraction approaches in the field of analytical chemistry. The facile synthesis procedures of DESs based on hydrogen bonding have led to the development of innovative liquid-liquid microextraction (LLME) strategies involving the in-situ formation or decomposition of these solvents. This review provides a summary of literature on LLME approaches based on the in-situ formation/decomposition of DESs to offer up-to-date information in this field.

Separation of furfuryl alcohol from water using hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents

Esteban Cea-Klapp et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the separation of furfuryl alcohol (FA) from water using hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DES). Experimental results show that hydrophobic DES have comparable selectivities and distribution coefficients to traditional volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and better distribution coefficients compared to typical organic solvents. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and PC-SAFT modeling provide accurate estimations for ternary liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE).

Deep eutectic solvents in liquid-phase microextraction: Contribution to green chemistry

Luana Bastos Santos et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the search for green chemistry principles in analytical methods. Solvents play a crucial role in green analytical chemistry, and certain criteria must be met for a solvent to be considered green, including availability, low toxicity, biodegradability, and low cost. However, the availability of green solvents is currently limited. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have emerged as a new and promising alternative to traditional solvents, attracting attention for their eco-friendly, inexpensive, and easily obtainable characteristics. This work provides a critical review of the use of DESs in liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) and their contributions to green chemistry.

Experimental and density functional theory studies during a new solid phase extraction of phenolic compounds from wastewater samples prior to GC-MS determination

Mir Ali Farajzadeh et al.

Summary: In this study, a commercial polymer-based dispersive solid phase extraction method was used for the extraction of phenolic compounds from wastewater samples. The method involved the use of polyvinylpyrrolidone as a sorbent and sodium chloride to disperse it into tiny particles. The compounds were then eluted using a deep eutectic solvent synthesized from choline chloride and alpha-terpineol. The optimized conditions resulted in good extraction performance and analytical parameters.
