Automatic Diagnosis of Glaucoma from Retinal Images Using Deep Learning Approach

Ayesha Shoukat et al.

Summary: Glaucoma is a disease characterized by increased intraocular pressure and damage to the optic nerve, which can lead to irreversible blindness. Early-stage detection is crucial to prevent severe consequences, but it is often detected late in the elderly population. An automatic method using deep learning is proposed to detect early-stage glaucoma with high accuracy by identifying patterns from retinal images. The proposed model achieved excellent results in detecting glaucoma on various datasets.

Detecting Glaucoma from Fundus Photographs Using Deep Learning without Convolutions

Rui Fan et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to compare the diagnostic accuracy and explainability of a Vision Transformer deep learning technique, Data-efficient image Transformer (DeiT), and ResNet-50 in detecting primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using fundus photographs. The study found that the DeiT models showed similar performance to ResNet-50 models on the test sets and outperformed ResNet-50 on external datasets. The attention maps derived from DeiT highlighted localized areas of the neuroretinal rim, suggesting their importance for classification.

YOLOv7: Trainable bag-of-freebies sets new state-of-the-art for real-time object detectors

Chien-Yao Wang et al.

Summary: Real-time object detection is an important research topic in computer vision, and the development of new approaches in architecture optimization and training optimization has led to two related research topics. To address these topics, a trainable solution combining flexible and efficient training tools, proposed architecture, and compound scaling method is proposed. YOLOv7 outperforms all known object detectors in terms of speed and accuracy, achieving the highest AP accuracy of 56.8% among real-time object detectors with 30 FPS or higher on GPU V100.

Automatic method for glaucoma diagnosis using a three-dimensional convoluted neural network

Nonato Rodrigues de Sales Carvalho et al.

Summary: Glaucoma is defined as an abnormality in the optic system that affects vision, damages the nervous system, and can increase intraocular pressure. Early detection and preventive treatment are crucial to avoid total vision loss. This study introduces a new method for classifying glaucomatous and healthy eye background images, using a 3D convolutional neural network, which has shown promising results in terms of accuracy and sensitivity.
