Limited seed dispersal shapes fine-scale spatial genetic structure in a Neotropical dioecious large-seeded palm

Sebastian Escobar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic patterns of Phytelephas aequatorialis using microsatellite markers. The results showed that seed dispersal mediated by rodents had shorter distances compared to pollen dispersal. Seed dispersal had a minor contribution to gene flow, with spatially limited seed dispersal being the main factor shaping the genetic structure. Pollen dispersal distances were influenced by the density of male palms.

Spatial genetic structure and mating system in forest tree populations from seasonally dry tropical forests: a review

Alejandra Lorena Goncalves et al.

Summary: Gene dispersal processes play a significant role in shaping the demographic and microevolutionary dynamics of tree species. This review examines the drivers of gene dispersal, including the mating system, population density, propagule dispersal, and successional stage, and their consequences for gene dispersal in tree species from seasonally dry tropical forests (SDTF). Understanding these determinants can inform management actions for the conservation and restoration of SDTF.

Continuous inbreeding affects genetic variation, phenology, and reproductive strategy in ex situ cultivated Digitalis lutea

Tobias M. Sandner et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular genetic variation of Digitalis lutea in a botanic garden population cultivated for 30 years, a frozen seed bank, and two wild populations. The results showed that high levels of inbreeding during ex situ cultivation can influence reproductive traits and interactions with pollinators.
