Impact of kaolinite and iron oxide cements on resistivity and quality of low resistivity pay sandstones

Anas Muhammad Salisu et al.

Summary: This study examined the influence of kaolinite and iron oxides on the resistivity and reservoir quality of low resistivity pay zones. The presence of these cementing minerals was found to significantly affect the resistivity and permeability of sandstone reservoirs, with fine-grained sandstones containing higher concentrations of kaolinite and iron oxides exhibiting lower resistivity and permeability values.

Origin of ooids, peloids and micro-oncoids of marine ironstone deposits in Western Siberia (Russia)

Maxim Rudmin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the authigenically formed Late Cretaceous and Paleogene marine ironstones in Western Siberia (Russia) based on petrographic and spectroscopic investigations. The study found that the marine succession in these formations primarily comprises ooidal or peloidal ironstones formed predominantly by abiogenic precipitates with subordinate microbial signatures.

Clinton ironstone revisited and implications for Silurian Earth system evolution

Edward J. Matheson et al.

Summary: Ironstone is a marine biochemical sedimentary rock with syndepositional Fe enrichment, consisting of two distinct types: granular ironstone and fossiliferous ironstone. The formation process involves the precipitation and reduction of iron, and is related to the modern understanding of the Fe biogeochemical cycle and early Paleozoic Earth system.

Rolling Ironstones from Earth and Mars: Terrestrial Hydrothermal Ooids as a Potential Analogue of Martian Spherules

Marcella Di Bella et al.

Summary: High-resolution images from NASA rovers on Mars revealed mm-size loose haematite spherulitic deposits, similar to terrestrial iron-ooids. The formation of these Martian spherules shares similarities with iron spherules currently forming on Earth near active submarine hydrothermal systems. The recent discovery of a still working iron-ooid source on Earth indicates past hydrothermal activity on Mars could potentially be the cause of formation of these enigmatic iron grains.

Depositional Conditions of Cretaceous Ironstones Deposit in the Chulym-Yenisey Basin (Western Siberia)

Maxim Rudmin et al.

Summary: This study reconstructs the depositional conditions of ironstones within the Chulym-Yenisey basin and assesses the iron source. It found that the detrital minerals include various minerals, with authigenic and siliceous components, and bacterial sulfate reduction in some clay components.
