Polysaccharide-based nano-engineered multilayers for controlled cellular adhesion in label-free biosensors

Monika Wasilewska et al.

Summary: Controlling cellular adhesion is crucial in biomaterials development and cell-based biosensing assays. The adhesivity of cells can be tuned by constructing multilayers using synthetic and natural materials. The physicochemical properties and cell adhesion on these polysaccharide-based multilayers were investigated.

Self-Exchange of Polyelectrolyte in Multilayers: Diffusion as a Function of Salt Concentration and Temperature

Rachel L. Abbett et al.

Summary: Polymer chain diffusion within a hydrated polyelectrolyte complex was measured using ultrathin film prepared by layer-by-layer method. Different molecular weights of polymer diffused at different rates with different activation energies, and salt concentration influenced the diffusion coefficients. The study provided insights into the diffusion behavior and molecular interactions within the polymer complex.

Surface Plasmon Resonance Field-Enhanced Fluorescence Properties of Gold Quantum Dots on Polyelectrolyte Multilayers and Their H2O2 Sensor Application

Patrawadee Yaiwong et al.

Summary: The research focuses on studying surface plasmon field-enhanced fluorescence emission from gold quantum dots on an aluminum thin film coated with PDADMAC/PSS multilayers. The fluorescence intensity of the AuQDs increases as the number of PDADMAC/PSS bilayers increases, until the optimal distance between the AuQDs and the aluminum layers is reached. Additionally, the coating of silver nanoprisms onto the AuQDs allows for H2O2 sensing, with a decrease in fluorescence intensity observed due to energy transfer to the AgNPrs, and subsequent recovery upon injection of a H2O2 solution.

Effect of the Anchoring Layer and Transport Type on the Adsorption Kinetics of Lambda Carrageenan

Aneta Michna et al.

Summary: The kinetics of lambda carrageenan adsorption/desorption on/from anchoring layers under diffusion- and convection-controlled transport conditions were studied. The efficiency of macroion adsorption is correlated to zeta potentials, transport type, and initial bulk concentration of macroions in the anchoring layers. The type of macroion forming the anchoring layer had a minor impact on the kinetics of lambda carrageenan adsorption.

The role of the electrokinetic charge of neurotrophis-based nanocarriers: protein distribution, toxicity, and oxidative stress in in vitro setting

Maria Dabkowska et al.

Summary: The electrokinetic charge of dendrimer core influences BDNF release profile and cytotoxicity of nanoparticles. Positively charged nanoparticles core shows higher cytotoxicity and serious phenotype alterations compared to negatively charged nanoparticles core. PEG adsorption on nanoparticles with negatively charged core reduces metabolic cell activity, while charge neutralization on positively charged nanoparticles core does not reduce cytotoxicity.
