Users' Perceptions About Lower Extremity Orthotic Devices: A Systematic Review

Julie M. Orlando et al.

Summary: This systematic review examines perceptions from adults, children, and caregivers regarding lower extremity orthotic devices (LEODs) and how well they meet the needs of users in terms of functionality, expression, aesthetics, and accessibility (FEA2). The study finds that LEODs perform well in meeting functional needs but show room for improvement in addressing expression, aesthetics, and accessibility needs. Users' perceptions vary based on their diagnosis and the type of device used. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the design and implementation of LEODs to improve user satisfaction and device utilization.

Test-retest reliability of upper limb robotic exoskeleton assessments in children and youths with brain lesions

Judith Graser et al.

Summary: Assessing upper limb function is important for neurorehabilitation in children with brain lesions. This study investigated the reliability of assessments using the exoskeleton ChARMin to measure upper limb functions. The results showed differences in test-retest reliability and measurement errors among the assessments. Systematic differences were found in some parameters. Certain technology-based assessments are recommended for clinical practice.

Content analysis of child user and carer perspectives of ankle-foot orthoses

David Lahoud et al.

Summary: The study conducted inductive content analysis of child user, parent/carer, and practitioner perspectives to explore how child users perceive the acquisition and use of ankle-foot orthoses. Five key themes were identified: materials, structure, aesthetics, service, and impact. Child users had mixed opinions on ankle-foot orthoses, with satisfaction from functional improvements but negative feelings from the acquisition and use process.

Summary: The study assessed intraoperative joint line alignment in robotic-arm-assisted total knee arthroplasty using functional alignment, and compared it with preoperative epiphyseal orientation. Results showed moderate to strong relationships between preoperative anatomical orientation and intraoperative component alignment. Further studies are needed to evaluate long-term outcomes and patient satisfaction.
